SUMMARY:Creation and Destruction - Genspace Biomaterials Studio Group Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Genspace Biomaterials Studio presents a group exhibition exploring the dynamic tension between creation and decay. \nCreation and Destruction speaks to the cyclical nature of existence—where something new is birthed only for it to begin decomposing. These works sourced from living organisms or natural processes\, embody the constant flux between creation and destruction\, illustrating the mirror processes of biological and artistic renewal. We invite you to join us and consider the fragility of life and the potential for rebirth through the destruction of previous forms. \nFeaturing: \nSupermrin \nGrace McCarty \nJessica Reisch \nRomilly Rinck \nWill Elliot \nGrace Morenko \nAmy Chien \nBrian Houstle \nLily Xiao \nPetrichor Lab \nCaroline Chou \nLorraine Cruz \nSally Kong \nMaureen Ryza \nAurea Andrades \n‍

SUMMARY:Creation and Destruction - Genspace Biomaterials Studio - Panel & Workshop
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, Sept 27\, we will have our closing event from 12pm – 4pm with a panel at 12pm and a mycelium workshop at 3pm. Please RSVP for the workshop as there will be limited spots available! \n12pm – Panel Discussion – BioArt and the Future of Materials \nIn our pursuit for a healthier world\, we look to our neighbors—fungi\, bacteria\, algae\, plants. How will our relationships with these ecosystems change over time? How does art and science lead the future of our material relationships? Come listen to experts in the world of biology and art discuss the future of biomaterials. \n3pm – Mycelium Workshop \nIn our era of perceived abundance\, we readily throw out goods when no longer perfect or needed. Today’s workshop imagines the destruction of these common goods as means for creating something new. \n50 Spots available – Please bring a small plastic object to use as a mold for mycelium composite. These could be cups\, toys\, or other small objects. You will learn how to work with fungi to give your item a new life in a new form! \nSponsored by Ecovative and led by Genspace Biomaterials Studio CP Leads: Brian Houstle & Amy Chien & Lily Xiao \n \nAbout Genspace Biomaterials Studio \nWe are a community- driven biomaterial research group exploring\, creating\, and innovating at the intersection of materials\, biology\, and design. Biomaterials are collaborations between organisms synthesized into forms used for art\, products\, medicine\, and construction. We actively cultivate a community of designers\, artists\, and scientists focused on finding alternative solutions to today’s materials using circular and regenerative systems. \nAbout Genspace \nGenspace is the world’s first community biology lab — a place where people of all backgrounds can learn\, create\, and grow with the life sciences. Since 2009\, we have served the greater New York area by providing hands-on STEAM education programs for youth and adults\, cultural and outreach events for the public\, and a membership program to support New York’s community of creatives\, researchers\, and entrepreneurs. Our programs demystify scientific processes\, provide a platform for innovation\, and cultivate the next generation of life sciences leaders in emerging global technologies\, such as biotechnology\, neuroscience\, epidemiology\, genomics\, and many more. \nThank you to our sponsors for their generous support.
