An Asian (native to China, Japan, and Korea) plant variety which is related to sunflowers. Yomogi (also known as Japanese mugwort) has a feathery leaf with strong flavor. The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. The raw leaves are slightly bitter in taste and used in soups and salads. When cooked, they are often used in mochi (type of rice dumpling) or tea. It may also have medicinal properties which act as an anti-inflammatory and inhibit tumor growth. Before the discovery of hops, mugwort was used as a flavoring for beer.
